Is there a grant for air-to-air heat pumps?
Yes, for eligible homes in England and Wales. Since 28 April 2026 the Boiler Upgrade Scheme has included air-to-air heat pumps, with Ofgem listing a £2,500 grant for residential properties. The system must replace existing fossil fuel or electric heating, be able to meet the home's full space-heating demand, and be fitted by an MCS-certified installer. We check eligibility with you on survey and confirm whether an MCS-certified installer is available for your job before you commit.
How efficient are they?
Air-to-air heat pumps usually produce three to five units of heat for every unit of electricity in mild weather, and less in very cold weather. That makes them far cheaper to run than direct electric heating such as storage heaters, panel heaters or electric fires.
Do they work in a British winter?
Yes. Modern units are designed to keep heating well below freezing. We size the system for a cold winter day in your area, not an average one.

Air-to-air heat pumps prices
Guide prices for air-to-air heat pumps run from £2,950 to £11,450 for 2–5 rooms, before any grant, including VAT, depending on the options below. Whole-home heating and cooling; may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The survey turns this into a fixed written price.

Small home
Three or four rooms heated and cooled.
Whole home
Five or more rooms, sized to replace the existing heating.
Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
UK middle prices. London and the South East are typically higher and much of the North, Scotland and Wales a little lower; see your area page for a local figure.
