Bedroom and loft air conditioning

Bedroom and loft air conditioning is about quiet, steady cooling at night. Loft rooms and top-floor bedrooms gain heat through the roof all day and release it at night, so a correctly sized inverter unit on a low fan setting is the most reliable way to keep them comfortable for sleep.

Why do loft rooms overheat?

Sun on the roof heats the slates and the room below, and roof windows let in direct sun. Even well-insulated lofts can sit several degrees above the rest of the house in a heatwave. Blinds and ventilation help, but a small inverter system is what reliably holds a set temperature overnight.

How do you keep it quiet for sleep?

We choose units with low sound levels on their quietest fan setting, place them so air does not blow directly on the bed, and use sleep or night modes that limit fan speed. The outdoor unit is placed away from neighbours' bedroom windows.

Where does the outdoor unit go for a loft room?

Usually on a wall bracket at the rear, on a flat roof with a proper stand, or at ground level with a longer pipe run down the wall. Each option is priced on the quote; high-level brackets may need a scaffold tower for access.

FAQ

Bedroom and loft air conditioning: your questions

What temperature is best for sleeping?

Most people sleep well with the room around 18–20 °C. Set the unit a few degrees below the outside temperature in a heatwave rather than as low as it will go.

Can one outdoor unit serve two bedrooms?

Yes, a multi-split can run two to five rooms from one outdoor unit, which is often neater for a pair of bedrooms.

Will the unit dry the air?

Air conditioning removes some moisture as it cools, which helps on humid nights. Most units also have a dry mode.
