Air-to-air heat pumps

Heat load surveys and system design

A heat load survey works out how much heat each room gains in summer and loses in winter, from its size, glazing, orientation, insulation and use. It is the basis for choosing unit sizes, outdoor unit capacity and pipe routes, and it is the step that separates a system that works from one that is merely installed.

FAQ

Heat load surveys and system design: your questions

Why can't you just quote from floor area?

Two rooms the same size can need very different units because of glazing, orientation and use. Sizing from floor area alone is the main cause of systems that never feel right.

How long does a survey take?

One to two hours for most homes.

Do I get the calculations?

Your quote shows the capacity chosen for each room. Standalone design packs include the full calculations.
