Air-to-air heat pumps across Clwyd

Homes in Wrexham on electric, oil or LPG heating are the ones most likely to benefit from an air-to-air heat pump. Ask at your Wrexham survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home. North Wales has mild, damp weather for much of the year, so efficient heating and dehumidifying are big benefits.

Prices in Clwyd

For Clwyd, expect roughly £2,745 to £10,745 for 2–5 rooms, VAT included, adjusted for typical North Wales rates. Labour rates in North Wales keep this slightly under the national middle. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. On our North Wales figures, the Small home option (three or four rooms heated and cooled) is about £4,195–£6,995.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

Since 1 June 2026, Welsh permitted development rules for outdoor units closely match England's: up to 1.5 m³, two units on a detached home, one on other homes, and MCS 020a noise compliance. Listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas have extra restrictions on units facing a road.

If your home in Clwyd is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.

The survey

A survey in Clwyd usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes. We book surveys in Clwyd at a time that suits you, including early evenings by arrangement, and send the written quote afterwards.

FAQ

Air-to-air heat pumps in Clwyd

How much do air-to-air heat pumps cost in Clwyd?

Our North Wales guide range is £2,745–£10,745 for 2–5 rooms, including VAT.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Clwyd?

Since 1 June 2026, most houses in Wales can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020a noise conditions. Flats, listed buildings and conservation areas need more care. We check on survey.

Which towns in Clwyd do you cover?

All of Clwyd, including Wrexham, Buckley, Deeside and Colwyn Bay. Each town has its own page below with local details.

Will my energy bills go down?

If you are replacing direct electric heating, almost certainly. If you are replacing gas, savings depend on tariffs. We give an honest running-cost comparison at survey.

Is an air-to-air heat pump just air conditioning?

Technically it is the same kind of equipment, but it is designed and sized to heat the home through winter, with cooling as a bonus.
