Air-to-air heat pumps across Oxfordshire

Ask at your Oxford survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home. We size every heat pump in Oxford for a cold winter day, then check the cooling side is right for summer. Hot spells reach the South East early, which makes spring the easiest time to arrange an installation.

Prices in Oxfordshire

Budget around £3,595–£13,945 for 2–5 rooms including VAT for air-to-air heat pumps in and around Oxfordshire. South East England is one of the dearer parts of the UK for trades, which shows in the range. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. Typical Small home work (three or four rooms heated and cooled) lands around £5,445–£9,095 in this area.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

For most houses in Oxfordshire, the outdoor unit is permitted development if it passes the MCS 020(a) noise check (37 dB(A) or less at the nearest neighbouring window) and stays within the size and number limits. We run that check on survey.

If your home in Oxfordshire is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.

The survey

Surveys in Oxfordshire cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote.

FAQ

Air-to-air heat pumps in Oxfordshire

Which towns in Oxfordshire do you cover?

All of Oxfordshire, including Oxford, Banbury, Abingdon and Bicester. Each town has its own page below with local details.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Oxfordshire?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

How much do air-to-air heat pumps cost in Oxfordshire?

Our South East England guide range is £3,595–£13,945 for 2–5 rooms, including VAT.

Is an air-to-air heat pump just air conditioning?

Technically it is the same kind of equipment, but it is designed and sized to heat the home through winter, with cooling as a bonus.

Will my energy bills go down?

If you are replacing direct electric heating, almost certainly. If you are replacing gas, savings depend on tariffs. We give an honest running-cost comparison at survey.
