Who it suits
- Two to four bedrooms
- Open-plan kitchen and living space
- Homes with one good spot for an outdoor unit
- Flats and apartments with limited outside space
When is multi-split better than separate systems?
Multi-split saves wall space outside and usually looks tidier, with one outdoor unit instead of three or four. It suits homes where there is one sensible place for an outdoor unit. Separate single splits can be better where rooms are far apart, or where you want the rooms fully independent so one fault never affects the others; we price both options when it is close.
How are the pipes run between rooms?
Each indoor unit has its own pair of refrigerant pipes back to the outdoor unit. Where possible we route them through a loft, under floors or inside a boxed riser so they are hidden; otherwise they run in slim white trunking. Pipe routes drive cost more than anything else, so we plan them room by room on survey.
Can the rooms run at different temperatures?
Yes, each indoor unit has its own set point and fan speed. The one limit is mode: all units on a single outdoor unit work in the same mode at once, so one room cannot heat while another cools. For most homes that never matters.

Multi-split air conditioning prices
Guide prices for multi-split air conditioning run from £2,450 to £7,750 for 2–4 rooms, including VAT, depending on the options below. One outdoor unit serving two to four indoor units, each with its own controls. The survey turns this into a fixed written price.
Twin
Two rooms on one outdoor unit, wall-mounted indoor units, standard routes.
Triple
Three rooms with mixed indoor styles and Wi-Fi control throughout.
Quad
Four or five rooms, longer concealed runs or a ducted unit in a loft void.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
UK middle prices. London and the South East are typically higher and much of the North, Scotland and Wales a little lower; see your area page for a local figure.
