Air-to-air heat pumps across Wiltshire

Homes in Swindon on electric, oil or LPG heating are the ones most likely to benefit from an air-to-air heat pump. Ask at your Swindon survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home. South West summers are milder on the coast, but sheltered towns and south-facing rooms still overheat, and efficient winter heating matters just as much.

Prices in Wiltshire

For Wiltshire, expect roughly £2,950 to £11,450 for 2–5 rooms, VAT included, adjusted for typical South West England rates. That is broadly in line with national guide prices. Concealed pipework, access equipment for high walls and any electrical work are what push prices towards the upper figure. For reference, the Small home option in Wiltshire (three or four rooms heated and cooled) usually comes to about £4,450–£7,450.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

In England, most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it is no larger than 1.5 m³, meets the MCS 020(a) noise limit of 37 dB(A) at the nearest neighbour's window, and there are no more than two on a detached house or one on other houses. Listed buildings need consent.

Wiltshire is in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme area, so eligible homes replacing oil, gas, LPG or electric heating may be able to get £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump, as long as no fossil-fuel boiler stays in use. An MCS-certified installer must claim it; we confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

The survey

We book surveys in Wiltshire at a time that suits you, including early evenings by arrangement, and send the written quote afterwards. At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote.

FAQ

Air-to-air heat pumps in Wiltshire

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Wiltshire?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

How much do air-to-air heat pumps cost in Wiltshire?

Our South West England guide range is £2,950–£11,450 for 2–5 rooms, including VAT.

Which towns in Wiltshire do you cover?

All of Wiltshire, including Swindon, Salisbury, Trowbridge and Chippenham. Each town has its own page below with local details.

How much is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air?

Ofgem lists £2,500 for air-to-air heat pumps in residential properties in England and Wales. Your installer applies and deducts it from your quote.

Will my energy bills go down?

If you are replacing direct electric heating, almost certainly. If you are replacing gas, savings depend on tariffs. We give an honest running-cost comparison at survey.
