Air-to-air heat pumps across Cornwall

Homes in Truro on electric, oil or LPG heating are the ones most likely to benefit from an air-to-air heat pump. We size every heat pump in Truro for a cold winter day, then check the cooling side is right for summer. Damp South West winters make the dehumidifying side of a heat pump almost as useful as its cooling.

Prices in Cornwall

Guide prices around Cornwall run from £2,950 to £11,450 for 2–5 rooms including VAT. That is broadly in line with national guide prices. Longer or hidden pipe runs, high-level brackets and electrical upgrades are the usual reasons a quote lands at the top of the range. For reference, the Small home option in Cornwall (three or four rooms heated and cooled) usually comes to about £4,450–£7,450.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

For most houses in Cornwall, the outdoor unit is permitted development if it passes the MCS 020(a) noise check (37 dB(A) or less at the nearest neighbouring window) and stays within the size and number limits. We run that check on survey.

If your home in Cornwall is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.

The survey

The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote. We book surveys in Cornwall at a time that suits you, including early evenings by arrangement, and send the written quote afterwards.
