Air-to-air heat pumps across Norfolk

Ask at your Norwich survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home. Homes in Norwich on electric, oil or LPG heating are the ones most likely to benefit from an air-to-air heat pump. Bright summers in the East of England mean solar gain through glass is usually the biggest load to design for.

Prices in Norfolk

Air-to-air heat pumps in Norfolk typically come in at £3,295–£12,795 for 2–5 rooms including VAT, based on East of England rates. The East of England is one of the dearer parts of the UK for trades, which shows in the range. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. Typical Small home work (three or four rooms heated and cooled) lands around £4,995–£8,345 in this area.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

For most houses in Norfolk, the outdoor unit is permitted development if it passes the MCS 020(a) noise check (37 dB(A) or less at the nearest neighbouring window) and stays within the size and number limits. We run that check on survey.

Norfolk is in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme area, so eligible homes replacing oil, gas, LPG or electric heating may be able to get £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump, as long as no fossil-fuel boiler stays in use. An MCS-certified installer must claim it; we confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

The survey

The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote. We book surveys in Norfolk at a time that suits you, including early evenings by arrangement, and send the written quote afterwards.

FAQ

Air-to-air heat pumps in Norfolk

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

How much do air-to-air heat pumps cost in Norfolk?

Our East of England guide range is £3,295–£12,795 for 2–5 rooms, including VAT.

Which towns in Norfolk do you cover?

All of Norfolk, including Norwich, Great Yarmouth, King's Lynn and Thetford. Each town has its own page below with local details.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Norfolk?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Can an air-to-air heat pump replace my boiler?

It can replace the space heating, but not hot water. If any gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, even just for hot water, the installation does not qualify for the grant, and the heat pump itself must be MCS-certified.

Will my energy bills go down?

If you are replacing direct electric heating, almost certainly. If you are replacing gas, savings depend on tariffs. We give an honest running-cost comparison at survey.
