Air-to-air heat pumps across Northamptonshire

We size every heat pump in Northampton for a cold winter day, then check the cooling side is right for summer. Ask at your Northampton survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home. In the East Midlands, one system that cools in summer and heats efficiently in winter makes good use of the investment.

Prices in Northamptonshire

For Northamptonshire, expect roughly £2,845 to £10,995 for 2–5 rooms, VAT included, adjusted for typical East Midlands rates. That sits a little below the UK middle, reflecting typical East Midlands labour rates. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. On our East Midlands figures, the Small home option (three or four rooms heated and cooled) is about £4,245–£7,145.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

In England, most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it is no larger than 1.5 m³, meets the MCS 020(a) noise limit of 37 dB(A) at the nearest neighbour's window, and there are no more than two on a detached house or one on other houses. Listed buildings need consent.

If your home in Northamptonshire is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.

The survey

At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote. We book surveys in Northamptonshire at a time that suits you, including early evenings by arrangement, and send the written quote afterwards.

FAQ

Air-to-air heat pumps in Northamptonshire

Which towns in Northamptonshire do you cover?

All of Northamptonshire, including Northampton, Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough. Each town has its own page below with local details.

How much do air-to-air heat pumps cost in Northamptonshire?

Our East Midlands guide range is £2,845–£10,995 for 2–5 rooms, including VAT.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Northamptonshire?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Is an air-to-air heat pump just air conditioning?

Technically it is the same kind of equipment, but it is designed and sized to heat the home through winter, with cooling as a bonus.

Will my energy bills go down?

If you are replacing direct electric heating, almost certainly. If you are replacing gas, savings depend on tariffs. We give an honest running-cost comparison at survey.
