Repairs and replacement

Air conditioning replacement and removal

Replacing an air conditioning system means recovering the old refrigerant into a cylinder, removing and recycling the old units, and fitting new efficient equipment. It is the right move for R22 systems, units with failed compressors, and systems so old that parts are no longer available.

Can new units reuse the old pipework?

Sometimes. Pipework from R410A systems can often be reused for R32 units if it is the right size, in good condition and cleaned or flushed. Pipework from R22 systems is usually replaced. We test and decide on survey.

What happens to the old refrigerant?

It is recovered by a certified engineer into a recovery cylinder and returned for recycling or destruction. Venting refrigerant is illegal.

FAQ

Air conditioning replacement and removal: your questions

Is it worth replacing an old system that still works?

If it is R22 or very old, yes, plan a replacement before it fails, because any leak will end it. Newer systems are also far more efficient.

Can you relocate a unit?

Yes. Relocation involves recovery, moving and recommissioning, and often new pipework.

Do you take the old units away?

Yes, for recycling, with the refrigerant recovered first.
