Air conditioning replacement and removal across Surrey
Replacements in Woking can often reuse an existing bracket and wall opening where they are sound. During building work in Woking, units can be recovered and removed so the job can go ahead safely. Summers in the South East are among the warmest in the country, so cooling often comes first, with efficient winter heating as a bonus.
Prices in Surrey
For Surrey, expect roughly £240 to £595 to remove and recover one system, VAT included, adjusted for typical South East England rates. South East England is one of the dearer parts of the UK for trades, which shows in the range. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. For reference, the Like-for-like option in Surrey (replace one system using sound existing routes) usually comes to about £1,395–£2,745.

Planning and permissions
Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.
The survey
On a survey in Surrey the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows. The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote.
