Floor console air conditioning across Somerset
If your home in Taunton is bay-fronted or period, a console often suits it better than a high wall unit. Where a house in Taunton has a bay window, a console can sit where the radiator was. In the South West, a system that heats well through damp winters is often as valuable as summer cooling.
Prices in Somerset
In South West England, our guide range for floor console air conditioning is £1,350–£2,950 per room, including VAT. It sits near the middle of UK prices. Concealed pipework, access equipment for high walls and any electrical work are what push prices towards the upper figure. As an example, the Popular option (quieter console with Wi-Fi control for a living room) would typically be £1,750–£2,350 here.
Essential
Standard console for a bedroom or study.
Popular
Quieter console with Wi-Fi control for a living room.
Premium
Larger capacity or concealed pipework through the floor void.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.
The survey
Surveys in Somerset cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. On a survey in Somerset the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows.
