Design-led and low-profile air conditioning across Gwent
In Newport, a flat-fronted unit is a neat way to add cooling to a living room without a bulky white box. Design-led units suit Newport homes with feature walls or open-plan rooms where the unit is always in view. South Wales summers can be warm and humid, and winters damp, so a reversible system earns its keep all year.
Prices in Gwent
Our South and Mid Wales guide price for design-led air conditioning is £1,695–£3,345 per room, VAT included. Labour rates in South and Mid Wales keep this slightly under the national middle. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. For reference, the Flat-fronted option in Gwent (flat panel unit in white, black or silver for a living room) usually comes to about £2,045–£2,695.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Since 1 June 2026, Welsh permitted development rules for outdoor units closely match England's: up to 1.5 m³, two units on a detached home, one on other homes, and MCS 020a noise compliance. Listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas have extra restrictions on units facing a road.
The survey
The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote. A survey in Gwent usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes.
