Air conditioning replacement and removal in Cheltenham
Units over fifteen years old in Cheltenham homes are worth replacing before they fail completely. Damp South West winters make the dehumidifying side of a heat pump almost as useful as its cooling.
During building work in Cheltenham, units can be recovered and removed so the job can go ahead safely. We cover Cheltenham as part of Gloucestershire, roughly 7 miles from Gloucester. We cover GL50 and GL52 and the streets around them.
Prices in Cheltenham
In South West England, our guide range for air conditioning replacement and removal is £195–£495 to remove and recover one system, including VAT. That is broadly in line with national guide prices. What moves a quote in Cheltenham up or down is mostly pipe length, how high the outdoor unit goes, and whether a new electrical circuit is needed. On our South West England figures, the Like-for-like option (replace one system using sound existing routes) is about £1,150–£2,250.

Planning and permissions
Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.
The survey
The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote. On a survey in Cheltenham the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows.
