New build and renovation air conditioning in Reading

Hot spells reach the South East early, which makes spring the easiest time to arrange an installation. First-fix pipework in Reading extensions goes in while the joists and studs are open.

Renovations in Reading are the easiest jobs to make invisible, because the pipework goes in before the plaster. As well as Reading itself, our Berkshire coverage takes in Slough, Bracknell and the towns around them. We cover RG1, RG6 and RG30 and the streets around them.

Prices in Reading

Our South East England guide price for air conditioning for new builds and renovations is £495–£1,095 per indoor position (first fix), VAT included. Prices here sit above the national middle, reflecting South East England labour rates and parking and access costs. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. On our South East England figures, the First and second fix option (complete install priced per room including units) is about £1,745–£3,595.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Working with your builder

First-fix work is about coordination, while the outdoor unit follows the normal planning rules for the property.

The survey

The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote. At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote.
