Heat load surveys and system design in Derby
The East Midlands gets warm, dry summer spells, and loft conversions and top-floor bedrooms are where the heat builds. Every Derby quote starts with a room-by-room survey rather than a guess from floor area.
For self-builds and extensions in Derby, a standalone design pack can go straight to your builder. We cover Derby and the rest of Derbyshire, including Chesterfield and Long Eaton. We cover DE1 and the streets around them.

Our East Midlands guide price for heat load surveys and system design is £380–£1,195 for a standalone design pack, VAT included. It is a touch below the UK middle, as trade rates in the East Midlands tend to be. The design pack price depends mainly on the number of rooms and whether full drawings and equipment schedules are needed. Planning and permissions
Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.
The survey
A survey in Derby usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes. The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote.
