Floor console air conditioning across the West Midlands

Where a house in Birmingham has a bay window, a console can sit where the radiator was. If your home in Birmingham is bay-fronted or period, a console often suits it better than a high wall unit. Hot spells in the West Midlands are shorter but intense, especially in loft rooms and rooms with big windows.

Prices in the West Midlands

For the West Midlands, expect roughly £1,295 to £2,895 per room, VAT included, adjusted for typical West Midlands rates. That is broadly in line with national guide prices. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. As an example, the Popular option (quieter console with Wi-Fi control for a living room) would typically be £1,695–£2,295 here.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.

The survey

The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote. At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote.

FAQ

Floor console air conditioning in the West Midlands

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

Which towns in the West Midlands do you cover?

All of the West Midlands, including Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton and Dudley. Each town has its own page below with local details.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in the West Midlands?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

How much does floor console air conditioning cost in the West Midlands?

Our West Midlands guide range is £1,295–£2,895 per room, including VAT.

Can the pipes go under the floor?

On suspended timber floors, usually yes, which hides them completely. On solid floors we run them out through the wall behind the console.

Are floor consoles quieter than wall units?

They are similar. Because they sit lower in the room you may notice the fan a little more at high speed, so we size them so they normally run on a low setting.
