Floor console air conditioning across Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles
Where a room in Stornoway has deep cornicing or a picture rail, a console keeps the walls above it clear. Where a house in Stornoway has a bay window, a console can sit where the radiator was. In the Highlands, Islands and the North East of Scotland, systems are sized for cold winter days first.
Prices in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles
Our Highlands, Islands and North East Scotland guide price for floor console air conditioning is £1,195–£2,645 per room, VAT included. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. On our Highlands, Islands and North East Scotland figures, the Popular option (quieter console with Wi-Fi control for a living room) is about £1,545–£2,095. Travel, ferry or accommodation costs are not in these figures; they are quoted as a fixed amount in writing before you book.
Essential

Popular
Quieter console with Wi-Fi control for a living room.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
In Scotland, planning conditions for outdoor units depend on the property type and location; conservation areas and listed buildings need particular care.
The survey
Surveys in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles are arranged around travel. We confirm the date and any travel, ferry or accommodation cost in writing before you commit, then the survey covers rooms, pipe routes, electrics and noise as normal. In Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles we often start with photos, room measurements and the make of any existing system, so the survey visit is focused and any travel cost can be quoted in writing first.
