Storage and electric heater replacement across the West Midlands
Old storage heaters in Birmingham homes are removed and recycled as part of the replacement. Flats and bungalows in Birmingham that have never had gas are the usual candidates for replacing storage heaters. Hot spells in the West Midlands are shorter but intense, especially in loft rooms and rooms with big windows.
Prices in the West Midlands
For the West Midlands, expect roughly £3,395 to £10,245 for 3–5 rooms, VAT included, adjusted for typical West Midlands rates. That is close to the UK middle for this kind of work. What moves a quote in the West Midlands up or down is mostly pipe length, how high the outdoor unit goes, and whether a new electrical circuit is needed. On our West Midlands figures, the Bungalow or house option (four rooms on one outdoor unit) is about £4,845–£7,795.
Small flat
Two or three rooms replacing storage heaters.
Bungalow or house
Four rooms on one outdoor unit.
Larger home
Five or more rooms or two outdoor units.
Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
England's rules let most houses fit an outdoor unit without a planning application, as long as the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions are met. Flats, listed buildings and roof-mounted units are treated differently.
If your home in the West Midlands is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.
The survey
On a survey in the West Midlands the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows. We book surveys in the West Midlands at a time that suits you, including early evenings by arrangement, and send the written quote afterwards.
