Storage and electric heater replacement across Staffordshire

For Stoke-on-Trent landlords, swapping storage heaters for a heat pump is one of the more effective EPC improvements. Old storage heaters in Stoke-on-Trent homes are removed and recycled as part of the replacement. Inland West Midlands towns can see sharp summer peaks, and the same system doubles as an efficient heater in winter.

Prices in Staffordshire

For Staffordshire, expect roughly £3,395 to £10,245 for 3–5 rooms, VAT included, adjusted for typical West Midlands rates. That is close to the UK middle for this kind of work. What moves a quote in Staffordshire up or down is mostly pipe length, how high the outdoor unit goes, and whether a new electrical circuit is needed. On our West Midlands figures, the Bungalow or house option (four rooms on one outdoor unit) is about £4,845–£7,795.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.

Staffordshire is in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme area, so eligible homes replacing oil, gas, LPG or electric heating may be able to get £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump, as long as no fossil-fuel boiler stays in use. An MCS-certified installer must claim it; we confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

The survey

We book surveys in Staffordshire at a time that suits you, including early evenings by arrangement, and send the written quote afterwards. On a survey in Staffordshire the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows.

FAQ

Storage and electric heater replacement in Staffordshire

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

Which towns in Staffordshire do you cover?

All of Staffordshire, including Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle under Lyme, Burton upon Trent and Cannock. Each town has its own page below with local details.

How much does storage and electric heater replacement cost in Staffordshire?

Our West Midlands guide range is £3,395–£10,245 for 3–5 rooms, including VAT.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Staffordshire?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Do I lose my Economy 7 tariff?

You can stay on it or switch. Heat pumps run when heat is needed, so many households move to a standard or smart tariff.

Will an air-to-air heat pump be cheaper than storage heaters?

In most homes running costs fall significantly, because the heat pump uses a fraction of the electricity for the same heat.
