Storage and electric heater replacement in Canterbury
Old storage heaters in Canterbury homes are removed and recycled as part of the replacement. Summers in the South East are among the warmest in the country, so cooling often comes first, with efficient winter heating as a bonus.
Flats and bungalows in Canterbury that have never had gas are the usual candidates for replacing storage heaters. Our Kent coverage takes in Canterbury, about 24 miles from Maidstone. Coverage includes CT1.
Prices in Canterbury
Our South East England guide price for storage and electric heater replacement is £4,195–£12,745 for 3–5 rooms, VAT included. South East England is one of the dearer parts of the UK for trades, which shows in the range. What moves a quote in Canterbury up or down is mostly pipe length, how high the outdoor unit goes, and whether a new electrical circuit is needed. Typical Bungalow or house work (four rooms on one outdoor unit) lands around £6,045–£9,695 in this area.
Small flat
Two or three rooms replacing storage heaters.
Bungalow or house
Four rooms on one outdoor unit.
Larger home
Five or more rooms or two outdoor units.
Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.
If your home in Canterbury is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.
The survey
At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote. A survey in Canterbury usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes.
