Storage and electric heater replacement across Kent

Old storage heaters in Maidstone homes are removed and recycled as part of the replacement. For Maidstone landlords, swapping storage heaters for a heat pump is one of the more effective EPC improvements. Hot spells reach the South East early, which makes spring the easiest time to arrange an installation.

Prices in Kent

Our South East England guide price for storage and electric heater replacement is £4,195–£12,745 for 3–5 rooms, VAT included. South East England is one of the dearer parts of the UK for trades, which shows in the range. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. On our South East England figures, the Bungalow or house option (four rooms on one outdoor unit) is about £6,045–£9,695.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

In England, most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it is no larger than 1.5 m³, meets the MCS 020(a) noise limit of 37 dB(A) at the nearest neighbour's window, and there are no more than two on a detached house or one on other houses. Listed buildings need consent.

Kent is in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme area, so eligible homes replacing oil, gas, LPG or electric heating may be able to get £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump, as long as no fossil-fuel boiler stays in use. An MCS-certified installer must claim it; we confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

The survey

At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote. The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote.

FAQ

Storage and electric heater replacement in Kent

Which towns in Kent do you cover?

All of Kent, including Maidstone, Gillingham, Chatham and Tunbridge Wells. Each town has its own page below with local details.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

How much does storage and electric heater replacement cost in Kent?

Our South East England guide range is £4,195–£12,745 for 3–5 rooms, including VAT.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Kent?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Do I lose my Economy 7 tariff?

You can stay on it or switch. Heat pumps run when heat is needed, so many households move to a standard or smart tariff.

Will an air-to-air heat pump be cheaper than storage heaters?

In most homes running costs fall significantly, because the heat pump uses a fraction of the electricity for the same heat.
