Home air conditioning in Bath
South West summers are milder on the coast, but sheltered towns and south-facing rooms still overheat, and efficient winter heating matters just as much. Bath sits around 41 miles from Taunton, inside our Somerset area. We cover BA1 and the streets around them.
Rooms and systems
Garden offices used every day in Bath need cooling in summer and efficient heat in winter. If an older system in your Bath home uses R22, replacement is usually the route, because it can no longer be recharged. For Bath landlords, swapping storage heaters for a heat pump is one of the more effective EPC improvements. If an indoor unit in Bath drips from the front, a blocked drain tray is often the cause, which a deep clean clears.
Flats, listed homes and garden rooms each bring their own questions, from freeholder consent to cable routes, and we cover them at survey. Design-led units, slim floor consoles and concealed ducted systems are all options where a standard white wall unit would look out of place.
Guide prices in Bath
On our South West England figures, a garden room system is typically £1,450–£3,150 per system, a multi-split £2,450–£7,750 for 2–4 rooms, and a ducted system £5,450–£14,950 per system, all including VAT. Installations are fixed in writing after a free survey; visits are priced before we come.
Planning and permissions
Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission. Flats need more care: get your freeholder's written consent first, and expect the planning rules for a block of flats in Bath to be stricter than for a house.
If your home in Bath is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.
