Home air conditioning in Lancashire

Milder summers in the North West mean designing for winter comfort as much as for a heatwave. Damp North West weather makes the dehumidifying mode of a modern split system genuinely useful for much of the year.

Garden offices used every day in Preston need cooling in summer and efficient heat in winter. Renovations in Preston are the easiest jobs to make invisible, because the pipework goes in before the plaster. Homes near busy roads and kitchens around Preston tend to need a deep clean more often. Design-led units, slim floor consoles and concealed ducted systems are all options where a standard white wall unit would look out of place. Many homes start with one or two rooms. A system can be designed so that more rooms are added later without replacing the outdoor unit.

Planning and permissions

Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.

Lancashire is in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme area, so eligible homes replacing oil, gas, LPG or electric heating may be able to get £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump, as long as no fossil-fuel boiler stays in use. An MCS-certified installer must claim it; we confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
