Wall-mounted air conditioning in Darwen

Wall-mounted air conditioning in Darwen

In a semi or terrace in Darwen, the indoor unit often goes on a back bedroom wall with the outdoor unit on a bracket below. Damp North West weather makes the dehumidifying mode of a modern split system genuinely useful for much of the year.

Where a home in Darwen faces the street, the outdoor unit usually goes at the rear, out of sight. Darwen sits around 11 miles from Preston, inside our Lancashire area. We cover BB3 and the streets around them.

Prices in Darwen

For Darwen, expect roughly £1,095 to £2,795 per room, VAT included, adjusted for typical North West England rates. It is a touch below the UK middle, as trade rates in North West England tend to be. Concealed pipework, access equipment for high walls and any electrical work are what push prices towards the upper figure. As an example, the Popular option (quieter mid-range unit with Wi-Fi control and better seasonal efficiency for a living room) would typically be £1,445–£2,045 here.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

For most houses in Darwen, the outdoor unit is permitted development if it passes the MCS 020(a) noise check (37 dB(A) or less at the nearest neighbouring window) and stays within the size and number limits. We run that check on survey.

The survey

A survey in Darwen usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes. We book surveys in Darwen at a time that suits you, including early evenings by arrangement, and send the written quote afterwards.
