Air conditioning for period and listed homes across the Isle of Wight

If your Newport home is listed or in a conservation area, consent comes first and we provide what the council needs to see. If your home in Newport is Victorian, Edwardian or older, a console or concealed system often works better than a high wall unit. The South East sees some of the UK's warmest summer days, and south-facing rooms and conservatories feel it first.

Prices on the Isle of Wight

Guide prices around the Isle of Wight run from £1,995 to £9,695 per home, one room upwards including VAT. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. As an example, the Concealed option (ducted unit from a loft or void serving one or two rooms) would typically be £4,195–£6,645 here. Travel, ferry or accommodation costs are not in these figures; they are quoted as a fixed amount in writing before you book.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Listed building consent

Period homes on the Isle of Wight that are not listed can usually follow the normal rules for outdoor units, but listed buildings always need consent, and conservation areas restrict units on elevations facing a road. In England, most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it is no larger than 1.5 m³, meets the MCS 020(a) noise limit of 37 dB(A) at the nearest neighbour's window, and there are no more than two on a detached house or one on other houses. Listed buildings need consent.

The survey

Where travel is involved, we agree the survey arrangements and any travel cost up front. On the day, the engineer measures the rooms, checks the electrics and agrees the outdoor unit position with you. On the Isle of Wight we often start with photos, room measurements and the make of any existing system, so the survey visit is focused and any travel cost can be quoted in writing first.
