New build and renovation air conditioning in Berkhamsted
For new Berkhamsted extensions with flat roofs, the outdoor unit position is best agreed against the architect's drawings. Bright summers in the East of England mean solar gain through glass is usually the biggest load to design for.
Renovations in Berkhamsted are the easiest jobs to make invisible, because the pipework goes in before the plaster. We cover Berkhamsted as part of Hertfordshire, roughly 10 miles from Watford. Postcode districts we cover here include HP4.
Prices in Berkhamsted
Guide prices around Berkhamsted run from £445 to £995 per indoor position (first fix) including VAT. That is above the UK middle, mainly because labour and access cost more in the East of England. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. Typical First and second fix work (complete install priced per room including units) lands around £1,595–£3,295 in this area.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Working with your builder
Because the pipework is built into the structure, coordination with your builder matters more than planning here; the outdoor unit follows the same rules as any other installation.
