Home gym and media room air conditioning in Newtown
For a home cinema in Newtown, we place the indoor unit so airflow stays away from the screen and seating. South Wales summers can be warm and humid, and winters damp, so a reversible system earns its keep all year.
Garage gyms and media rooms in Newtown often face the same problem: thin walls and a lot of heat from people and equipment. As well as Newtown itself, our Powys coverage takes in Brecon, Llandrindod Wells and the towns around them. Postcode districts we cover here include SY16.
Prices in Newtown
Budget around £1,245–£3,095 per room including VAT for air conditioning for home gyms and media rooms in and around Newtown. That sits a little below the UK middle, reflecting typical South and Mid Wales labour rates. Longer or hidden pipe runs, high-level brackets and electrical upgrades are the usual reasons a quote lands at the top of the range. Typical Garage gym work (3.5–5 kW unit with supply check and pump if needed) lands around £1,595–£2,245 in this area.
Spare room
2.5–3.5 kW unit for a small gym or games room.

3.5–5 kW unit with supply check and pump if needed.
Large space
5–7 kW unit or two units for a big gym or cinema room.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Since 1 June 2026, Welsh permitted development rules for outdoor units closely match England's: up to 1.5 m³, two units on a detached home, one on other homes, and MCS 020a noise compliance. Listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas have extra restrictions on units facing a road.
The survey
Surveys in Newtown cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. On a survey in Newtown the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows.
