Garden room and home office air conditioning in Hertford
We check the armoured supply cable on every Hertford garden room before quoting. Bright summers in the East of England mean solar gain through glass is usually the biggest load to design for.
Garden offices used every day in Hertford need cooling in summer and efficient heat in winter. Hertford lies roughly 17 miles from Watford, and we cover it as part of Hertfordshire. That includes the SG13 postcode district.
Prices in Hertford
In the East of England, our guide range for garden room and home office air conditioning is £1,595–£3,545 per system, including VAT. That is above the UK middle, mainly because labour and access cost more in the East of England. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. For reference, the Popular option in Hertford (3.5 kW unit with Wi-Fi to warm up before you walk down the garden) usually comes to about £1,995–£2,745.
Essential
2.5 kW unit for a small office pod.
Popular
3.5 kW unit with Wi-Fi to warm up before you walk down the garden.
Premium
5 kW unit for a large studio or gym, or concealed routing.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.
The survey
A survey in Hertford usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes. The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote.
