Storage and electric heater replacement across Surrey

For Woking landlords, swapping storage heaters for a heat pump is one of the more effective EPC improvements. Old storage heaters in Woking homes are removed and recycled as part of the replacement. In the South East, loft rooms and glazed extensions can climb well above the outside temperature on a sunny afternoon.

Prices in Surrey

For Surrey, expect roughly £4,195 to £12,745 for 3–5 rooms, VAT included, adjusted for typical South East England rates. That is above the UK middle, mainly because labour and access cost more in South East England. Longer or hidden pipe runs, high-level brackets and electrical upgrades are the usual reasons a quote lands at the top of the range. Typical Bungalow or house work (four rooms on one outdoor unit) lands around £6,045–£9,695 in this area.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

For most houses in Surrey, the outdoor unit is permitted development if it passes the MCS 020(a) noise check (37 dB(A) or less at the nearest neighbouring window) and stays within the size and number limits. We run that check on survey.

If your home in Surrey is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.

The survey

A survey in Surrey usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes. On a survey in Surrey the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows.

FAQ

Storage and electric heater replacement in Surrey

How much does storage and electric heater replacement cost in Surrey?

Our South East England guide range is £4,195–£12,745 for 3–5 rooms, including VAT.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Surrey?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

Which towns in Surrey do you cover?

All of Surrey, including Woking, Guildford, Esher and Redhill. Each town has its own page below with local details.

Will an air-to-air heat pump be cheaper than storage heaters?

In most homes running costs fall significantly, because the heat pump uses a fraction of the electricity for the same heat.

Do I lose my Economy 7 tariff?

You can stay on it or switch. Heat pumps run when heat is needed, so many households move to a standard or smart tariff.
