Storage and electric heater replacement in Sheffield
In Yorkshire, south-facing lofts and glazed extensions are where summer cooling makes the biggest difference. Flats and bungalows in Sheffield that have never had gas are the usual candidates for replacing storage heaters.
Old storage heaters in Sheffield homes are removed and recycled as part of the replacement. Sheffield is one of the main towns we cover in South Yorkshire, alongside Rotherham and Doncaster. We cover S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 and 3 more and the streets around them.
Prices in Sheffield
Our Yorkshire and the Humber guide price for storage and electric heater replacement is £3,295–£9,945 for 3–5 rooms, VAT included. That sits a little below the UK middle, reflecting typical Yorkshire and the Humber labour rates. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. As an example, the Bungalow or house option (four rooms on one outdoor unit) would typically be £4,695–£7,545 here.
Small flat
Two or three rooms replacing storage heaters.
Bungalow or house
Four rooms on one outdoor unit.
Larger home
Five or more rooms or two outdoor units.
Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.
If your home in Sheffield is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.
The survey
Surveys in Sheffield cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. A survey in Sheffield usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes.
