Storage and electric heater replacement across the Isle of Wight

Flats and bungalows in Newport that have never had gas are the usual candidates for replacing storage heaters. For Newport landlords, swapping storage heaters for a heat pump is one of the more effective EPC improvements. Hot spells reach the South East early, which makes spring the easiest time to arrange an installation.

Prices on the Isle of Wight

In South East England, our guide range for storage and electric heater replacement is £4,195–£12,745 for 3–5 rooms, including VAT. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. Typical Bungalow or house work (four rooms on one outdoor unit) lands around £6,045–£9,695 in this area. Travel, ferry or accommodation costs are not in these figures; they are quoted as a fixed amount in writing before you book.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

England's rules let most houses fit an outdoor unit without a planning application, as long as the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions are met. Flats, listed buildings and roof-mounted units are treated differently.

If your home on the Isle of Wight is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.

The survey

Where travel is involved, we agree the survey arrangements and any travel cost up front. On the day, the engineer measures the rooms, checks the electrics and agrees the outdoor unit position with you. Surveys on the Isle of Wight are arranged around travel. We confirm the date and any travel, ferry or accommodation cost in writing before you commit, then the survey covers rooms, pipe routes, electrics and noise as normal.

FAQ

Storage and electric heater replacement on the Isle of Wight

Is the survey free here?

Surveys here are by arrangement, with any travel or ferry cost quoted as a fixed amount before you book.

Which towns on the Isle of Wight do you cover?

All of the Isle of Wight, including Newport, Isle of Wight, Ryde, Cowes and East Cowes. Each town has its own page below with local details.

How much does storage and electric heater replacement cost on the Isle of Wight?

Our South East England guide range is £4,195–£12,745 for 3–5 rooms, including VAT. Travel is quoted separately.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission on the Isle of Wight?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Do I lose my Economy 7 tariff?

You can stay on it or switch. Heat pumps run when heat is needed, so many households move to a standard or smart tariff.

Will an air-to-air heat pump be cheaper than storage heaters?

In most homes running costs fall significantly, because the heat pump uses a fraction of the electricity for the same heat.
