Storage and electric heater replacement across Hampshire

Old storage heaters in Southampton homes are removed and recycled as part of the replacement. For Southampton landlords, swapping storage heaters for a heat pump is one of the more effective EPC improvements. Hot spells reach the South East early, which makes spring the easiest time to arrange an installation.

Prices in Hampshire

Guide prices around Hampshire run from £4,195 to £12,745 for 3–5 rooms including VAT. That is above the UK middle, mainly because labour and access cost more in South East England. Longer or hidden pipe runs, high-level brackets and electrical upgrades are the usual reasons a quote lands at the top of the range. Typical Bungalow or house work (four rooms on one outdoor unit) lands around £6,045–£9,695 in this area.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

For most houses in Hampshire, the outdoor unit is permitted development if it passes the MCS 020(a) noise check (37 dB(A) or less at the nearest neighbouring window) and stays within the size and number limits. We run that check on survey.

Hampshire is in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme area, so eligible homes replacing oil, gas, LPG or electric heating may be able to get £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump, as long as no fossil-fuel boiler stays in use. An MCS-certified installer must claim it; we confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

The survey

At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote. The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote.

FAQ

Storage and electric heater replacement in Hampshire

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

Which towns in Hampshire do you cover?

All of Hampshire, including Southampton, Portsmouth, Basingstoke and Gosport. Each town has its own page below with local details.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Hampshire?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

How much does storage and electric heater replacement cost in Hampshire?

Our South East England guide range is £4,195–£12,745 for 3–5 rooms, including VAT.

Will an air-to-air heat pump be cheaper than storage heaters?

In most homes running costs fall significantly, because the heat pump uses a fraction of the electricity for the same heat.

Can landlords use this to improve an EPC?

Replacing direct electric heating with a heat pump often improves an EPC rating. The exact change depends on the property, so ask a domestic energy assessor.
