Storage and electric heater replacement across Gwynedd
Flats and bungalows in Bangor that have never had gas are the usual candidates for replacing storage heaters. For Bangor landlords, swapping storage heaters for a heat pump is one of the more effective EPC improvements. North Wales has mild, damp weather for much of the year, so efficient heating and dehumidifying are big benefits.
Prices in Gwynedd
For Gwynedd, expect roughly £3,245 to £9,795 for 3–5 rooms, VAT included, adjusted for typical North Wales rates. Labour rates in North Wales keep this slightly under the national middle. What moves a quote in Gwynedd up or down is mostly pipe length, how high the outdoor unit goes, and whether a new electrical circuit is needed. On our North Wales figures, the Bungalow or house option (four rooms on one outdoor unit) is about £4,645–£7,445.
Small flat
Two or three rooms replacing storage heaters.
Bungalow or house
Four rooms on one outdoor unit.
Larger home
Five or more rooms or two outdoor units.
Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Since 1 June 2026, Welsh permitted development rules for outdoor units closely match England's: up to 1.5 m³, two units on a detached home, one on other homes, and MCS 020a noise compliance. Listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas have extra restrictions on units facing a road.
If your home in Gwynedd is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.
The survey
Surveys in Gwynedd cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote.
