Ducted air conditioning across Cornwall

Ducted systems suit Truro loft conversions and new extensions where ceilings are being boarded anyway. In an older house in Truro, the loft and any existing bulkheads decide whether a ducted layout will work. Damp South West winters make the dehumidifying side of a heat pump almost as useful as its cooling.

Prices in Cornwall

Budget around £5,450–£14,950 per system including VAT for ducted air conditioning in and around Cornwall. It sits near the middle of UK prices. Concealed pipework, access equipment for high walls and any electrical work are what push prices towards the upper figure. On our South West England figures, the Zoned option (motorised dampers or two units for separate floors or room groups) is about £7,450–£10,950.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

In England, most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it is no larger than 1.5 m³, meets the MCS 020(a) noise limit of 37 dB(A) at the nearest neighbour's window, and there are no more than two on a detached house or one on other houses. Listed buildings need consent.

The survey

On a survey in Cornwall the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows. A survey in Cornwall usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes.

FAQ

Ducted air conditioning in Cornwall

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Cornwall?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new installations on the mainland. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation.

How much does ducted air conditioning cost in Cornwall?

Our South West England guide range is £5,450–£14,950 per system, including VAT.

Which towns in Cornwall do you cover?

All of Cornwall, including Redruth, Falmouth, St Austell and Truro. Each town has its own page below with local details.

Can ducted air conditioning go into an existing house?

Often, yes, if there is a loft or space to drop a ceiling or build a bulkhead. It is simplest in top-floor rooms. We check voids and routes on survey before recommending it.

Do the ducts lose cooling?

Properly insulated and sealed ducts lose very little. We keep runs short and insulate everything in the loft.
