Ducted air conditioning in March

Bright summers in the East of England mean solar gain through glass is usually the biggest load to design for. For a renovation in March, the best time to plan ducted cooling is before the plasterers arrive.

Ducted systems suit March loft conversions and new extensions where ceilings are being boarded anyway. We cover March as part of Cambridgeshire, roughly 14 miles from Peterborough. Postcode districts we cover here include PE15.

Prices in March

In the East of England, our guide range for ducted air conditioning is £6,095–£16,745 per system, including VAT. That is above the UK middle, mainly because labour and access cost more in the East of England. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. On our East of England figures, the Zoned option (motorised dampers or two units for separate floors or room groups) is about £8,345–£12,245.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

For most houses in March, the outdoor unit is permitted development if it passes the MCS 020(a) noise check (37 dB(A) or less at the nearest neighbouring window) and stays within the size and number limits. We run that check on survey.

The survey

The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote. Surveys in March cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare.

FAQ

Common questions in March

How long does the installation take in March?

Usually 3–5 days. We confirm the timing, and any days with no cooling or heating, in your written quote.

Is the survey in March really free?

Yes, for new installations. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead.

Do you cover all of March?

Yes, including PE15. We also cover nearby Wisbech and Peterborough.

How much does ducted air conditioning cost in March?

Our guide range in the East of England is £6,095–£16,745 per system, including VAT. The exact price depends on the rooms, the pipe route and access, and we confirm it in writing after a free survey.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in March?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Do the ducts lose cooling?

Properly insulated and sealed ducts lose very little. We keep runs short and insulate everything in the loft.
