Design-led and low-profile air conditioning in March

Bright summers in the East of England mean solar gain through glass is usually the biggest load to design for. In March, a flat-fronted unit is a neat way to add cooling to a living room without a bulky white box.

Design-led units suit March homes with feature walls or open-plan rooms where the unit is always in view. Our Cambridgeshire coverage takes in March, about 14 miles from Peterborough. Homes in PE15 are all within our coverage.

Prices in March

Guide prices around March run from £2,045 to £4,095 per room including VAT. Prices here sit above the national middle, reflecting East of England labour rates and parking and access costs. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. For reference, the Flat-fronted option in March (flat panel unit in white, black or silver for a living room) usually comes to about £2,495–£3,295.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.

The survey

Surveys in March cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. On a survey in March the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows.

FAQ

Common questions in March

How long does the installation take in March?

Usually one day. We confirm the timing, and any days with no cooling or heating, in your written quote.

Do you cover all of March?

Yes, including PE15. We also cover nearby Wisbech and Peterborough.

How much does design-led air conditioning cost in March?

Our guide range in the East of England is £2,045–£4,095 per room, including VAT. The exact price depends on the rooms, the pipe route and access, and we confirm it in writing after a free survey.

How soon can you survey in March?

We offer survey dates when you enquire. Early summer is the busiest time, so spring and autumn are the easiest times to book.

Do design-led units cost more to run?

Running cost depends on the efficiency rating, not the finish. Many premium ranges have high seasonal efficiency ratings, which we show on the quote.
