Air-to-air heat pumps in Staines

Summers in the South East are among the warmest in the country, so cooling often comes first, with efficient winter heating as a bonus. Ask at your Staines survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home.

We size every heat pump in Staines for a cold winter day, then check the cooling side is right for summer. Staines lies roughly 8 miles from Woking, and we cover it as part of Surrey. Postcode districts we cover here include TW18.

Prices in Staines

Our South East England guide price for air-to-air heat pumps is £3,595–£13,945 for 2–5 rooms, VAT included. That is above the UK middle, mainly because labour and access cost more in South East England. Concealed pipework, access equipment for high walls and any electrical work are what push prices towards the upper figure. For reference, the Small home option in Staines (three or four rooms heated and cooled) usually comes to about £5,445–£9,095.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.

If your home in Staines is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.

The survey

The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote. A survey in Staines usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes.

FAQ

Common questions in Staines

How much do air-to-air heat pumps cost in Staines?

Our guide range in South East England is £3,595–£13,945 for 2–5 rooms, including VAT. The exact price depends on the rooms, the pipe route and access, and we confirm it in writing after a free survey.

Who carries out the work in Staines?

F-gas certified engineers working for Aircon Installers. Your contract is with S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which trades as Aircon Installers, and your quote names who will do the work and the F-gas company certificate that covers it.

How long does the installation take in Staines?

Usually 2–4 days. We confirm the timing, and any days with no cooling or heating, in your written quote.

Is the survey in Staines really free?

Yes, for new installations. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Staines?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Will my energy bills go down?

If you are replacing direct electric heating, almost certainly. If you are replacing gas, savings depend on tariffs. We give an honest running-cost comparison at survey.
