Air-to-air heat pumps in Scarborough

Yorkshire summers are mostly mild, so efficient winter heating counts for as much as cooling. Ask at your Scarborough survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home.

We size every heat pump in Scarborough for a cold winter day, then check the cooling side is right for summer. Scarborough lies roughly 35 miles from York, and we cover it as part of North Yorkshire. Coverage includes YO11.

Prices in Scarborough

Budget around £2,795–£10,895 for 2–5 rooms including VAT for air-to-air heat pumps in and around Scarborough. It is a touch below the UK middle, as trade rates in Yorkshire and the Humber tend to be. Concealed pipework, access equipment for high walls and any electrical work are what push prices towards the upper figure. For reference, the Small home option in Scarborough (three or four rooms heated and cooled) usually comes to about £4,245–£7,095.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

In England, most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it is no larger than 1.5 m³, meets the MCS 020(a) noise limit of 37 dB(A) at the nearest neighbour's window, and there are no more than two on a detached house or one on other houses. Listed buildings need consent.

If your home in Scarborough is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.

The survey

We book surveys in Scarborough at a time that suits you, including early evenings by arrangement, and send the written quote afterwards. At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote.

FAQ

Common questions in Scarborough

How much do air-to-air heat pumps cost in Scarborough?

Our guide range in Yorkshire and the Humber is £2,795–£10,895 for 2–5 rooms, including VAT. The exact price depends on the rooms, the pipe route and access, and we confirm it in writing after a free survey.

Will the outdoor unit need planning permission in Scarborough?

Most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it meets the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions. Flats and listed buildings usually need permission or consent. We check on survey.

Can I get a price for Scarborough without a visit?

Yes, our online guide price tool gives a range in about a minute. A fixed price needs a survey, which is free for new installations.

How long does the installation take in Scarborough?

Usually 2–4 days. We confirm the timing, and any days with no cooling or heating, in your written quote.

Do you cover all of Scarborough?

Yes, including YO11. We also cover nearby Bridlington and Hornsea.

Will my energy bills go down?

If you are replacing direct electric heating, almost certainly. If you are replacing gas, savings depend on tariffs. We give an honest running-cost comparison at survey.
