Air-to-air heat pumps in Southampton
Summers in the South East are among the warmest in the country, so cooling often comes first, with efficient winter heating as a bonus. We size every heat pump in Southampton for a cold winter day, then check the cooling side is right for summer.
Ask at your Southampton survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home. We cover Southampton and the rest of Hampshire, including Portsmouth and Basingstoke. Homes in SO15 are all within our coverage.
Prices in Southampton
Air-to-air heat pumps in Southampton typically come in at £3,595–£13,945 for 2–5 rooms including VAT, based on South East England rates. South East England is one of the dearer parts of the UK for trades, which shows in the range. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. Typical Small home work (three or four rooms heated and cooled) lands around £5,445–£9,095 in this area.
Two rooms
Living room and main bedroom on one outdoor unit.
Small home
Three or four rooms heated and cooled.
Whole home
Five or more rooms, sized to replace the existing heating.
Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
England's rules let most houses fit an outdoor unit without a planning application, as long as the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions are met. Flats, listed buildings and roof-mounted units are treated differently.
If your home in Southampton is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.
The survey
Surveys in Southampton cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. A survey in Southampton usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes.
