Air-to-air heat pumps in Hull
In Yorkshire, south-facing lofts and glazed extensions are where summer cooling makes the biggest difference. Homes in Hull on electric, oil or LPG heating are the ones most likely to benefit from an air-to-air heat pump.
Ask at your Hull survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home. As well as Hull itself, our East Riding of Yorkshire coverage takes in Bridlington, Beverley and the towns around them. Coverage includes HU1, HU2, HU3, HU4, HU5 and HU8.
Prices in Hull
Air-to-air heat pumps in Hull typically come in at £2,795–£10,895 for 2–5 rooms including VAT, based on Yorkshire and the Humber rates. That sits a little below the UK middle, reflecting typical Yorkshire and the Humber labour rates. Concealed pipework, access equipment for high walls and any electrical work are what push prices towards the upper figure. On our Yorkshire and the Humber figures, the Small home option (three or four rooms heated and cooled) is about £4,245–£7,095.
Two rooms
Living room and main bedroom on one outdoor unit.
Small home
Three or four rooms heated and cooled.
Whole home
Five or more rooms, sized to replace the existing heating.
Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
For most houses in Hull, the outdoor unit is permitted development if it passes the MCS 020(a) noise check (37 dB(A) or less at the nearest neighbouring window) and stays within the size and number limits. We run that check on survey.
Hull is in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme area, so eligible homes replacing oil, gas, LPG or electric heating may be able to get £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump, as long as no fossil-fuel boiler stays in use. An MCS-certified installer must claim it; we confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
The survey
On a survey in Hull the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows. A survey in Hull usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes.
