Wall-mounted air conditioning in Hitchin
In a semi or terrace in Hitchin, the indoor unit often goes on a back bedroom wall with the outdoor unit on a bracket below. The East of England is one of the sunniest and driest parts of the UK, which makes glazed rooms and lofts hard to keep cool.
A single wall-mounted unit is often all a bedroom or sunny living room in Hitchin needs. Hitchin sits around 21 miles from Watford, inside our Hertfordshire area. Postcode districts we cover here include SG4 and SG5.

Guide prices around Hitchin run from £1,295 to £3,295 per room including VAT. The East of England is one of the dearer parts of the UK for trades, which shows in the range. What moves a quote in Hitchin up or down is mostly pipe length, how high the outdoor unit goes, and whether a new electrical circuit is needed. On our East of England figures, the Popular option (quieter mid-range unit with Wi-Fi control and better seasonal efficiency for a living room) is about £1,745–£2,395.

Quieter mid-range unit with Wi-Fi control and better seasonal efficiency for a living room.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
England's rules let most houses fit an outdoor unit without a planning application, as long as the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions are met. Flats, listed buildings and roof-mounted units are treated differently.
The survey
Surveys in Hitchin cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote.
