Wall-mounted air conditioning across Gwent
A single wall-mounted unit is often all a bedroom or sunny living room in Newport needs. Where a home in Newport faces the street, the outdoor unit usually goes at the rear, out of sight. South Wales summers can be warm and humid, and winters damp, so a reversible system earns its keep all year.
Prices in Gwent
In South and Mid Wales, our guide range for wall-mounted air conditioning is £1,045–£2,695 per room, including VAT. That sits a little below the UK middle, reflecting typical South and Mid Wales labour rates. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. For reference, the Popular option in Gwent (quieter mid-range unit with Wi-Fi control and better seasonal efficiency for a living room) usually comes to about £1,445–£1,995.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Since 1 June 2026, Welsh permitted development rules for outdoor units closely match England's: up to 1.5 m³, two units on a detached home, one on other homes, and MCS 020a noise compliance. Listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas have extra restrictions on units facing a road.
The survey
On a survey in Gwent the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows. Surveys in Gwent cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare.
