Multi-split air conditioning in March

Bright summers in the East of England mean solar gain through glass is usually the biggest load to design for. In a house in March with a usable loft, multi-split pipes can often run through it so the front stays clear.

Multi-split is a good fit for March flats and maisonettes where only a balcony or one rear wall is available. March sits around 14 miles from Peterborough, inside our Cambridgeshire area. Postcode districts we cover here include PE15.

Prices in March

For March, expect roughly £2,745 to £8,695 for 2–4 rooms, VAT included, adjusted for typical East of England rates. That is above the UK middle, mainly because labour and access cost more in the East of England. What moves a quote in March up or down is mostly pipe length, how high the outdoor unit goes, and whether a new electrical circuit is needed. On our East of England figures, the Triple option (three rooms with mixed indoor styles and Wi-Fi control throughout) is about £3,745–£6,095.

Twin

Balanced choice

Triple

£3,745–£6,095
inc VAT, East of England guide

Three rooms with mixed indoor styles and Wi-Fi control throughout.

Quad

£4,995–£8,695
inc VAT, East of England guide

Four or five rooms, longer concealed runs or a ducted unit in a loft void.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.

Planning and permissions

Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.

The survey

A survey in March usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes. At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote.

What is included

Every job in March includes:

  • Pressure test, vacuum and refrigerant charge calculated for the pipe lengths

  • An indoor unit and controls for every room
  • Free survey with a room-by-room heat-gain check

FAQ

Common questions in March

Do you cover all of March?

Yes, including PE15. We also cover nearby Wisbech and Peterborough.

Is the survey in March really free?

Yes, for new installations. The survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead.

How soon can you survey in March?

We offer survey dates when you enquire. Early summer is the busiest time, so spring and autumn are the easiest times to book.

Can I get a price for March without a visit?

Yes, our online guide price tool gives a range in about a minute. A fixed price needs a survey, which is free for new installations.

Is multi-split cheaper than single splits?

For two or three rooms close together it is often similar or slightly cheaper, and it uses one outdoor unit instead of several. For rooms far apart, single splits can work out cheaper because the pipe runs are shorter.
