Ducted air conditioning in Birmingham
Hot spells in the West Midlands are shorter but intense, especially in loft rooms and rooms with big windows. In an older house in Birmingham, the loft and any existing bulkheads decide whether a ducted layout will work.
Ducted systems suit Birmingham loft conversions and new extensions where ceilings are being boarded anyway. We cover Birmingham and the rest of the West Midlands, including Coventry and Wolverhampton. Coverage includes B1, B2, B3, B4, B5 and 3 more.
Prices in Birmingham
Our West Midlands guide price for ducted air conditioning is £5,345–£14,645 per system, VAT included. It sits near the middle of UK prices. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. As an example, the Zoned option (motorised dampers or two units for separate floors or room groups) would typically be £7,295–£10,745 here.
Single zone
One ducted unit serving two or three rooms from a loft or void.
Zoned
Motorised dampers or two units for separate floors or room groups.
Whole home
Multiple ducted units with linear slot diffusers and smart control.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
In England, most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it is no larger than 1.5 m³, meets the MCS 020(a) noise limit of 37 dB(A) at the nearest neighbour's window, and there are no more than two on a detached house or one on other houses. Listed buildings need consent.
The survey
Surveys in Birmingham cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. A survey in Birmingham usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes.
