Ducted air conditioning in Galashiels
Long Scottish heating seasons make efficiency in cold, damp weather the thing to design around. In an older house in Galashiels, the loft and any existing bulkheads decide whether a ducted layout will work.
Ducted systems suit Galashiels loft conversions and new extensions where ceilings are being boarded anyway. Galashiels is one of the main towns we cover in the Scottish Borders, alongside Eyemouth and Hawick. Coverage includes TD1.
Prices in Galashiels
Ducted air conditioning in Galashiels typically comes in at £4,995–£13,745 per system including VAT, based on Central and Southern Scotland rates. It is a touch below the UK middle, as trade rates in Central and Southern Scotland tend to be. Longer or hidden pipe runs, high-level brackets and electrical upgrades are the usual reasons a quote lands at the top of the range. For reference, the Zoned option in Galashiels (motorised dampers or two units for separate floors or room groups) usually comes to about £6,845–£10,045.
Single zone
One ducted unit serving two or three rooms from a loft or void.
Zoned
Motorised dampers or two units for separate floors or room groups.
Whole home
Multiple ducted units with linear slot diffusers and smart control.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Scotland has its own permitted development rules for heat pumps and outdoor units, with stricter treatment of listed buildings and conservation areas. We check the current position for your property with you and, if needed, with the council.
The survey
The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote. At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote.
