Ducted air conditioning in Altrincham
In the North West, heating efficiency is often the main benefit, with summer cooling a welcome bonus. In an older house in Altrincham, the loft and any existing bulkheads decide whether a ducted layout will work.
Ducted systems suit Altrincham loft conversions and new extensions where ceilings are being boarded anyway. Our Greater Manchester coverage takes in Altrincham, about 8 miles from Manchester. Postcode districts we cover here include WA14.
Prices in Altrincham
In North West England, our guide range for ducted air conditioning is £5,195–£14,195 per system, including VAT. Labour rates in North West England keep this slightly under the national middle. Longer or hidden pipe runs, high-level brackets and electrical upgrades are the usual reasons a quote lands at the top of the range. For reference, the Zoned option in Altrincham (motorised dampers or two units for separate floors or room groups) usually comes to about £7,095–£10,395.
Single zone
One ducted unit serving two or three rooms from a loft or void.
Zoned
Motorised dampers or two units for separate floors or room groups.
Whole home

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
England's rules let most houses fit an outdoor unit without a planning application, as long as the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions are met. Flats, listed buildings and roof-mounted units are treated differently.
The survey
At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote. On a survey in Altrincham the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows.
