Ducted air conditioning across Cumbria
For a renovation in Carlisle, the best time to plan ducted cooling is before the plasterers arrive. Ducted systems suit Carlisle loft conversions and new extensions where ceilings are being boarded anyway. In the North West, heating efficiency is often the main benefit, with summer cooling a welcome bonus.
Prices in Cumbria
Ducted air conditioning in Cumbria typically comes in at £5,195–£14,195 per system including VAT, based on North West England rates. Labour rates in North West England keep this slightly under the national middle. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. On our North West England figures, the Zoned option (motorised dampers or two units for separate floors or room groups) is about £7,095–£10,395.

Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
England's rules let most houses fit an outdoor unit without a planning application, as long as the size, number and MCS 020(a) noise conditions are met. Flats, listed buildings and roof-mounted units are treated differently.
The survey
Surveys in Cumbria cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. At the survey we look at how each room is used, where the sun hits it and how the pipes can reach the outside wall, then put it all in a written quote.
