Conservatory air conditioning in March
Low rainfall and long summer days in the East of England make south-facing rooms the first to overheat. If your conservatory in March faces south, that is where overheating is worst.
Conservatories and orangeries in March can swing from too hot in July to too cold in January. March lies roughly 14 miles from Peterborough, and we cover it as part of Cambridgeshire. Postcode districts we cover here include PE15.
Prices in March
In the East of England, our guide range for conservatory air conditioning is £1,595–£3,845 per system, including VAT. That is above the UK middle, mainly because labour and access cost more in the East of England. Quotes move with the length of the pipe run, where the outdoor unit can sit and how much electrical work the job needs. As an example, the Popular option (5 kW unit with Wi-Fi for a medium conservatory or orangery) would typically be £2,045–£2,895 here.
Essential
3.5 kW unit for a small lean-to or Edwardian conservatory.
Popular
5 kW unit with Wi-Fi for a medium conservatory or orangery.
Premium
7 kW or console-plus-wall setup for large glazed rooms.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
In England, most houses can have an outdoor unit under permitted development if it is no larger than 1.5 m³, meets the MCS 020(a) noise limit of 37 dB(A) at the nearest neighbour's window, and there are no more than two on a detached house or one on other houses. Listed buildings need consent.
The survey
On a survey in March the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows. Surveys in March cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare.
